What it does

Screens your site for tree impacts (on- and near-site) and local triggers that can trip planning authority validation checks.

Captures key facts (location, stem diameter/DBH, crown spread).

Calculates Root Protection Areas (RPA) and indicative constraints automatically.

Generates ready-to-submit documents so you can comply with your local authority’s validation list.
Who it’s for

Householder and small-site applicants

Architects, planning agents and builders

Developers preparing outline/feasibility submissions

Anyone requiring “a preliminary tree survey” to support a planning application

All sites up to 10,000 metres square/1 hectare

Key features

BS 5837–aligned, proportionate solutions

Our reports are preliminary assessments to help support the validation process. While not complete BS 5837 reports, they use the same standard measures (DBH, RPA) suitable for preliminary assessment.

Local validation intelligence

Flags existing data on your site and its environs, avoiding awkward mismatches with LPA expectations.

Map-based capture

Plot trees and set crown spreads directly on your site plan.

Automatic calculations

Iterate your site designs quickly with automatic problem detection, with canopy extent, RPA radius and area calculations built-in.

Clear outputs

Reports designed for validation teams to approve: neat schedules, labelled plans, and a concise summary explaining method and limits.

No impacts? No specialist required

Built around the British ‘competent person’ standard —keeping cost and delay down.

Designed to reduce invalidations

Get answers for the tree-related questions in your planning application up front.

Presents the facts clearly and consistently, the way validation teams prefer to see them.

Keeps things proportionate with our preliminary reports—no unnecessary studies where they
aren’t required.

How it works

Plot trees – just point-and-click to add trees, shrubs and stumps.

03

Add DBH – use our easy-to-follow guide to record stem diameter at 1.3 metres (Diameter at Breast Height).

04

Review constraints – automatic RPA/canopy intersections; local triggers flagged.

05

Export – one click to generate your pack, ready for submission.

"USE THIS COMPANY. The level of service provided by Joe Blooms has become a very rare thing. I had literally no idea what I was doing; you pay a fee for the service but boy do you get a lot of value add. Any question I raised was responded to almost immediately. When it got complicated, they actually phoned me to talk me through it. The actual website itself is good, but the recommendation comes from the service you get around it. Exceptional."

Frequently Asked Questions

Is this acceptable for validation?
Yes. Our tool’s reports - which include all the usual facts and data points like locations, DBHs, RPAs and BNG so on - are fully suited for initial validation and to inform future plans. Where an LPA has special
requirements or requires full arboricultural reports by default, our tool lets you know before proceeding.
Do I need an arboriculturist?
Where you can show that there is no impact on trees on or near your site through a preliminary survey, a full report is often not required. For sites where this is not the case, a preliminary survey helps focus the scope of what may be required. Where an LPA requires a BS 5837 arboricultural report or where impacts on protected trees are likely, you’ll need a qualified arboriculturist’s report.
Will I still need an arboricultural report?
Often not. Providing a robust preliminary assessment gives you the best opportunity to show whether such a report is necessary. While the final decision always lies with the LPA, our tool gives you the
opportunity to see your impacts and refine your plans from the outset, avoiding costly round trips between planning submissions and contractor reports.
Can I update the pack later?
Yes. Re-open your project, amend entries and re-export without starting from scratch and with no additional costs.
